Execution steps

  1. 01Turn off or dim all ambient room lighting for optimal darkness.
  2. 02Set your display brightness to your typical working level (100-200 nits or 80%+).
  3. 03Launch the full-screen black canvas.
  4. 04Look closely around the outer frame edges and corners for unwanted golden or white light spilling into the dark area.

Diagnostic symptoms

  • Backlight Bleed: Bright uneven patches or light rays emitting from frame edges, visible regardless of viewing angle.
  • IPS Glow: A uniform silver or golden glow visible in corners when viewed from extreme off-axis angles, which disappears when viewed straight-on.

Pro tips

  • Backlight bleed is caused by mechanical frame pressure on the LCD panel layers.
  • Slightly loosening screen mount screws or adjusting monitor arm tension can sometimes relieve backlight bleed.
